"Carbon -12"
Carbon-12 is the more abundant carbon within human DNA, of the two stable isotopes that make up the element Carbon. This amounts to to 98.93% of the element carbon, the abundance is due to the triple-alpha process by which it is created in stars, hence the term "Carbon Based Organisms" is viable to this fact. Carbon-12 is of specific importance in its use as the standard from which atomic masses of all nuclides are measured: its mass number is 12 by definition and contains 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons. Do not get confused with the make up of Carbon and how much is actually within human DNA, 18% is the recorded amount by scientist. What this means is that 18% of the isotope Carbon-12 exist within the genetic instructions of humans, seems like very small, in all the mere fact that it is within the instructions for creating human life is mind blowing.
